I have a B.S. degree in Meteorology from SUNY College at Oneonta which required a great deal of mathematics, especially in calculus. I have taken calculus I, II, III, ordinary differential equations, general physics I & II, general chemistry I & II, and number theory. Other courses taken that involved mathematics were: physical meteorology, atmospheric dynamics I & II, weather analysis and forecasting I & II, micrometeorology, and remote sensing of the atmosphere. When explaining concepts to students in classes that I sub-taught I felt the best approach was to talk to individual students and use a whiteboard to clearly explain the concepts. I usually would give hints or start the problem, and then I would look for the student to add insight on how to progress. I also feel that teaching is an adaptive process and each student has their own learning personality that the teacher needs to recognize and adjust to. Asking questions throughout the learning process and maintaining a positive attitude also aid the learning process.

I like to first show a basic example of the problem, then show how the problem can be solved. I will then show another example that is a little more involved. After this, I let the person being mentored try solving a similar problem.
I implemented and maintained custom code for a number of clients, and I performd lead programmer functions and mentor others. Every few months I conducted "lunch and learns" for programmers and analysts. During these sessions I would describe what code was doing in a particular module. This would help them with their implementations.

I truly feel that educating kids about the way the world works is one of the most noble things a person can do. That said, I’ve been through the education system, and have seen its flaws, and places it could work better.
