I started ThinkTankTutor as a part time job while I attend College. Now Im taking ThinkTankTutor to the next level with Online Skype Tutoring, Text-A-Tutor and Free Sunday Morning Tutoring. I have also added a new team member to ThinkTankTutor, Ysidra Camarena, who works with elementary and middle school students, she is a great addition to the team. We have experience helping students study for the SAT, ACT, ASVAB, CAHSEE and GED. We can help you study for the Math Assessment exam for LMC, DVC, CCC and Las Positas College.

Teaching Style

I believe in Minimalism. I tutor Math from the point of view that the shortest path is the best path but everyone learns differently and finding the right method for my students is one of my main goals when tutoring. I teach students multiple ways to solve a particular problems and they get to decide which method works best for them, hopefully its the simplest method. Public School class rooms have 30 plus students and only one instructor. The low instructor to student ratio makes it difficult for more then one method to be taught leaving some students behind. When students feel they don't understand, they become self conscience of their perceived lack of knowledge making them less confident in mathematics which leads to procrastination on their homework . Besides finding the right method, another of my principle goals is helping my students grow in confidence. I want my students to enjoy mathematics and enjoy success.

Other Comments

I stress understanding over memorizing mathematics. I encourage my students to make errors when working with me, I have found this relaxes the mind and allows them to learn Mathematics naturally and with less effort and stress. I tell my students that I want to see the mistakes in their work. Students seem to be programmed that anytime they work on math problems that they have to get the right answer the first time. I try and break this misconception and teach them that the work to get the answer is more important then the answer, I found this builds confidence and a sense of the underlying idea of Mathematics. Confidence together with less stress makes for a better state of mind that's able to learn and acquire new information faster.
