Teaching Style

I tailor my teaching style to the student's goals and needs. Every individual is different in learning style/strategies preferences, so I work together with the student to put together a customized syllabus with realistic and manageable goals for a set timeframe.

My Hobbies

I like learning foreign languages and anything about different cultures. My traveling experiences and chances to live in different countries helped me to embrace cultural differences as something we should celebrate and learn from. We can start doing that from simply engaging in a conversation and sharing stories.

Grammar
Proficiency: Expert
Grammar is the foundation of a language. My teaching method is grounded in grammar. Finding effective ways to break down in simple terms and explain complex grammar rules to students is my forte.

English ESOL
Proficiency: Expert, and one of my top Subjects!
I learned English as a second language (my first language is Russian) and I know how to help and teach students learning ESL because I went through this process myself. It involves much more than learning just grammar and pronunciation...one should learn new cultural norms of communication which could be very different from your native culture. I hold a Masters in English with concentration in TESOL. I teach college level writing and reading classes in Florida.

Russian
Proficiency: Expert, and one of my top Subjects!
I am a native speaker, but that doesn't make me a good teacher. What makes me a good teacher is that I have a background in linguistics and I speak four languages. I know what it takes to learn and teach a language. Simply speaking the language, doesn't mean you can teach the language. When working with individual students, I come up with a teaching method that would target the student's goals and needs. I adjust my method to student's style and preferences which makes the lessons more effective, and the student learns faster and retains the learned material better. In addition to strictly teaching the Russian language (pronunciation, grammar, semantics etc.), I can also help my students understand the culture and the communicational norms of the Russian speakers, which can be quite different from those of your own native culture.
