I have a PhD in Biology. I have lived and studied in several countries where I was able to learn from, admire and adapt to the diverse people I have encountered. I read, write and speak fluently Spanish, English and Portuguese. I have been teaching children and adults for more than 20 years. I have participated in workshops and brainstorming events targeted towards improving teaching methods, designing evaluation systems and creating learning material. Here in the USA, I have worked as an adjunct and as a tutor of General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Human Biology, Cell Biology, Animal Biology, Basic Chemistry, Basic Physics, and Basic Earth Sciences. I also taught an extension course in Entomology for farmers.
I am warm, patient and accessible. I am capable of presenting concepts in diverse forms. All doubts and questions are answered using daily, commonplace examples that help the student comprehend a biological concept and not just memorize it for a test. During and at the end of each session, I use indirect and direct questioning to check the level of comprehension acquired and build on it. I check other skills such as reading and writing which may be interfering with the student's performance. I love teaching biology and I wish everybody would at least see how relevant it could be in life. Having clear concepts permits us all to make informed decisions regarding ourselves, our family and the environment.
