Experience Summary

I grew up in a family that values education so much that we were living in a state of war in Lebanon and still running from one school to the other. This instilled in me a great amount of love and appreciation towards education. During High school, I joined “Shabibat EL-Makassed”, a community service program, where I participated in public speech and writing contests, in addition to community service activities. In summer of 2000, I joined the Lebanese Red Cross where we conducted many seminars and activities to educate young and senior citizens about several issues in the health field. My experiences during high school and in the Red Cross made me value the feeling that one gets when helping others; it was the best feeling I ever experienced. When I moved to the US, I joined the Student Support Services program at the University of Toledo and started tutoring college students in many subjects, while attending the university myself. For three and a half years, I tutored in biology, chemistry, math, physics, English, Arabic, music, psychology, and other areas. After graduating with my bachelors, I attended Cleveland State University for masters in biology and worked with college and high school students as a private self-employed tutor. In general, my experiences made me value helping others and offered me knowledge in how to deal with a wide variety of people. I am always looking to expand my experiences and excel in what I do.

Teaching Style

As a great advocate of education, I aim to offer my students with the best learning experience possible. For that reason, while tutoring in college, I started reading and learning about the many teaching styles used in schools. This helped me find my own teaching style that focuses on each student individually. I try to mix several teaching styles in order for the student to understand and feel comfortable with the material. However, based on my own personal experiences, the teaching style that provided the best results to my students was the demonstrator teaching style. I use audio, video, role playing, personal experiences, class discussions, brainstorming, critical thinking, and other direct observations to allow students to use all their senses in their learning experience. I try to plan my lessons and educational activities in a manner that tends to simplify and clearly represent the material to students. I try to offer material that allows students to evaluate their own performance as well as giving them constructive feedback.
