I am extremely patient and even-tempered, but also very focused and passionate about education. Communicating with the student and parents is vital to the tutoring process. It enables the understanding of goals, expectations, challenges and different learning styles. One of my personal strengths is organizing and clearly explaining complex material. This, along with completely answering questions and reinforcing the subject matter, I feel are the keys to learning and retaining knowledge. I believe that demonstrating a strong work ethic (through punctuality and preparedness) and an enthusiasm for academics has had a positive effect on my students in the past. I truly enjoy tutoring and try to make a difference in the life of each student.

I communicate well with all ages and can create a realtionship that possess trust with anyone. I value the education. I am humbly thankful that I have the ability to teach and understand math. I love math. It fascinates me and I am excited to see the results in the people once they understand it too.
When I attended Malcolm X College, my first class was a math class. I excelled in the class with an A and was asked by the professor to become a teaxchers assistant in Basic Math and Algebra. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching for 25 years. I began as a high-school teacher, taught grade school and special education, and then spent 20 years as a university professor of English and philosophy. I started tutoring as a graduate student and have been doing it on and off now for 20 years.
I like working with grade-school students, but I like best a variety of teaching situations. That for me truly represents the challange of teaching. Only a diversity of students can bring learning to itself, reveal the demands of cognition for what they are. As a philosophy PhD this interests me very much.

Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. While I was raised in old-school education, I believe that some of the newer techniques of education through hands-on, the use of digital technology, and through writing across the curriculum are effective for many students.
I have two bachelor degrees, one in computer science, the other in mathematics with a type 09 cert (6-12). I belong to Mensa and the NCTM, and have excellent English and decent Spanish speaking and writing skills. I have taught and tutored in mathematics and computer science for quite awhile, and I earned a 95% on my PSAT and a 32 on my ACT.
