My tutoring style usually depend on the person I am tutoring, however the following is my basic beliefs, which guide my teaching methods. I believe that you can make any subject matter easy by focusing on the basics and relating the subject matter to things the student can identify with. This allows the student to not become overwhelmed and more acceptable to the subject matter. In addition, I believe that the students should be challenged and encouraged to reiterate what you teach them. A Little Bit About Me...

This year I taught math at Community of Peace Charter school in St. Paul, MN. I taught 3 sections of 8th grade math to a very diverse student population. Approximately 25% of the students receive ESL services outside of the math class, therefore I learned the difficulties that these students have with math vocab and context situations. I dealt with the broad range of math skills by running a math workshop model during the classroom blocks. This was very successful and was well liked by the students.
I am not a 'stand and lecture' type of teacher. Students learn best by trying math skills by themselves or working with other students. I use web math applets frequently and math video clips which appeals to the digital-native students of today.

I primarily use a question-and-answer technique. I am very adept at identifying when a student's understanding of a subject is not where it should be. I'm also an expert in using examples to explain a point. Especially when explaining technical things I can use non-technical examples to offer enlightenment. For example, while helping one of my sons learn college calculus I related first differentials to a police officer detecting speeders.
