I have adapted my materials to both multi-media classrooms and more traditional setting as needed. I like to bring in current popular songs, films, and TV shows when relevant to help students relate to their course material. For example, I use recent popular music when possible to illustrate grammar or pronunciation points, while at the same time familiarizing students with American popular culture. I also like to demonstrate useful websites, such as those containing online grammar exercises or one that shows an animated vocal tract for help with pronunciation. I try to provide a variety of interactions with the English language, so that while students are trained in appropriate academic English standards, they will not feel lost when trying to talk to a neighbor or listen to news on the radio. I refer to my teaching style as creative and fun. When I was teaching Japanese to two young American children, I was constantly challenged with keeping their interests to learn the language. Similar challenges occurred when I taught Japanese in an after-school program. I believe that depth of learning will be determined significantly by how students are taught. I strive to make the learning experience fun for students. I graduated with Magna Cum Laude from Marshall University in 2005. I have earned a BA in Psychology. In my senior year in college, I had an opportunity to work at a psychiatric residential treatment program, where I worked with adolescents with serious mental disturbances. In addition, I tutored several children throughout my college years. I also taught Japanese at an after-school program for a semester in West Virginia.

I find that many students in high school are not ready for college and struggle when they attend. The reason they are not ready is because they do not spend much time learning how to learn. I believe the main job of teachers is to teach students learning skills and strategies. We all have different abilities and strenghths, but we can all learn these strategies. My teaching style is to give students a strong feeling of safety and structure and then help them to create and attain their learning goals.
