Experienced Tutor

As an engineer and I have taught planners and engineers how to use software to do calculations. I have taught GRE preparation for Kaplan (analytical and verbal reasoning) both to small classes of 3 to 7 students and individual tutoring. In 2009, I was accepted into the Educators of Change program by the Duval County School Board. I am now a certified teacher in Mathematics and Physics (grades 9-12). I have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s in Public Administration. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills through writing articles for publication and many professional reports.
I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one id ... read more

Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically interact with the materials, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as possible to aid their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts, I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my teaching style to each individual learner.
I started tutoring as a young adult helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 and Creative Writing. I have worked with every age group from 6 w ... read more

My comments on tutoring Logic : Expert at all Logic concepts. Particularly good at explaining logic from a Discrete Math perspective, building student fluency in logic starting with truth tables and propositional statements, logical connectives AND and OR and negation NOT, commutative, associative and distributive laws, as well as other laws which can be useful such as the idempotent law, rules of inference for proofs such as modus ponens, modus tollens, etc., and methods of proof, as well as logical fallacies. HOT TIP: How to reverse engineer a proof when you have no idea what you're doing on a test and work backward from the conclusion you're trying to prove. Instead of going forward from the start and saying, "If this is true, then this next thing must be true, and this next thing must be true, ..." instead work backward and say, "If this conclusion is true, then this previous thing MUST HAVE BEEN true, and this previous thing MUST HAVE BEEN true..." I will teach you all the dirty (but legal) tricks to survive hard tests.

I am currently employed by a college in Roanoke, Virginia as a tutor of mathematics, chemistry, and computer science and tutor elementary school, middle school, high school, college students, and others professionally. For the last 23 years, it has been so fulfilling working for three colleges and tutoring independently over 2,000 students of all ages in all areas of math and computer science, as well as college writing, adult literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL). I have a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science and am internationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. I love tutoring more every year I do it.
If you watch me closely during our sessions, you can see me secretly paying keen attention to you and how you learn best. For example, you might say, "It LOOKS like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! LO ... read more

I Make Learning Easier, So It Is More Fun!

My teaching style is very simple and straight forward. When I work with students, by observing them to solve problems I can tell where they need help. I have tutored more than 1000 students in person and more than 700 students online as of today 02/14/2023 and all have passed with A or B.
Hello, I’m Nick. Thank you for your time reading my bio. I offer a 15 minutes online demo session for new students. I love learning and teaching. If you want to make all of your classes go easier, I am here to show you how. I have developed a way to teach you how to learn with more ease. So you spend less time worrying and fighting the assignments and more time enjoying what you’re learning and more free time to do other important things. Math and Physics Tutor

I follow the "EDGE" method for teaching: Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, and Enable. I will explain the material, demonstrate it with an example, guide the student through working through a problem, and then enable the student to work independently while still being available for questions. I also try to connect what the student is learning to real-life applications, especially ones that resonate with the student's interests. I find that learning is most effective when the students can connect it to what they personally find meaningful.
I can teach algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, physics, and engineering classes. My education was in Civil Engineering with a focus on mathematics, and I have over 4 years of experience tutoring at elementary school, middle school, high school, community college, and university levels.

Experienced Math Tutor

Hi, My name is Rob. I graduated from SUNY Oswego summa cum laude with a BS in applied mathematics and a minor in statistics. The plan is to start a Master's Degree in applied statistics at Syracuse University in the fall of 2013. I was trained as a math tutor in 2010 and have since tutored privately, at Cayuga Community College, and at SUNY Oswego. I have also worked as a teaching assistant for an intro statistics course. My experiences tutoring include one-on-one for college algebra, discrete mathematics, and statistics, as well as drop-in math help, with topics ranging from arithmetic to calculus 2. I am more than happy to break out my real analysis, abstract algebra and other high level notes if someone wants help with upper division classes. I am also familiar with grade school level arithmetic and word problems.
My usual style is to first let you work through a problem as b ... read more

I am excellent at taking in and processing information and then fluently teaching others that same information in a way they can fully understand it. In High School, I taught many students in my chemistry class how to thoroughly understand the material. I have effectively taught and trained others the game of chess.
I offer a comprehensive and effective teaching method that will help the learner thoroughly understand the material, not simply memorizing it. My teaching consists of critical thinking and logical reasoning.

It is NEVER too late to learn, nor right to learn only 1 way

I utilize kinesthetic learning and encourage parental involvement within the tutoring sessions.
I summarized my basic experience in the Policy Statement. To expand on that, I have over 20 apps on an android tablet that are for clients who need early intervention in the areas of educational subjects, speech/breathing techniques, social and emotional recognition and assistive communication. I have a child safety filter infiltrated into the device so that the clients receive only what is appropriate to their learning. They cannot access the settings on the device, nor the regular web. I honor parents' input on what they think is appropriate for their child.
