I am a hands-on, visual learner, but not everyone is the same. I am able to adapt to each child's specific learning style. If I am explaining something and the student is unable to grasp the concept, I want them to feel completely comfortable asking me to explain it in a different way. I like to be able to know the student a little more personal level, to understand their way of thinking. I returned to school at the age of 47 to get my degree in history. My comments on tutoring Literature : Literature was a concentration within my major, and I have taught most genres of literature to students for over 10 years.

My students exhibited diversities in learning styles, backgrounds, cultures, and interests. I have taught English to students at many levels, including, standard, honors and advanced placement. My comments on tutoring Literature : I love reading and I work hard to cause my students to love reading. Reading is a way for us to leave ourselves, and join another character, someplace, anyplace and live in his or her world for a time. What an escape mechanism reading is. No drugs, alcohol or tobacco needed -- just words. And I teach students to enjoy, no, to love the words that other folks have written to make us think, feel, wonder and learn.

I am gentle, yet demanding. I am soft, but strict. I use humor to keep my students interested and in focus. I teach, but I also listen and watch for signals from my students in order to know if they understand or need more explanation. I develop a bond with my students regardless of the students'age which allows us, as a "team" to move together toward success.
