After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling was teaching. I began teaching English, Journalism, S.A.T. I am a Latin teacher who tries to make every part of the language accessible to all students. I teach grades 7 through 12. I have taught AP courses, advanced ancient history courses, as well as classes such as Latin I, II, III, etc. Working one-on-one, I help students to identify problem areas and focus our attention there. Experienced, unconventional Latin and English teacher

I have over 20 years of experience working as a university instructor and private teacher for students ages 11-50. Most of my experience has been in English as a Second Language programs for community colleges and research universities, including M.I.T. and Tufts University. My comments on tutoring Latin : For a six month period I worked in tandem with a highly proficient Latin instructor who had 14 students achieve Magna Cum Laude in Latin one year. As my language choice in high school, my studies in Latin have assisted in my achieving superior skills in English usage and expression and facilitated my learning French and Spanish. On my first visit to Italy, I found that I was able to comprehend a good part of Italian conversation.

For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. Latin is one of my top subjects! I have an MAT degree and have taught Latin I, II, and III for 25 years. I will gladly work with the Cambridge or Ecce Romani textbook series or with my own materials which incorporate the best of both of these. The goal of my instruction is reading knowledge of Latin as opposed to the memorization of a grammar that does not apply to English. The stories I use to teach reading classical Latin center around the everyday lives of Roman families and their slaves, not military and political events. This is the vocabulary of everyday Roman life that has passed its roots into English, and so this is the Latin that should be learned in order to enhance one's English vocabulary. Additionally, the everyday lives of the Romans were far more strange and interesting than anything that occurred on their battlefields or on the floor of their Senate. The emphases of this course are adventure and wonder.

No, absolutely no pressure at any time. Patience, patience, patience. And there can't be too much encouragement. I aim to foster a love of learning and a genuine interest in the subject matter. It really should be fun, and if it's not, I wouldn't be doing my job.

German I have studied German for 7 years. I began in the 8th grade, from there it quickly became a hobby of mine. After freshman year of high school I spent 3 weeks in Holzkirchen, at a language school. When I returned I skipped a year of German. Finding that not challenging enough, I skipped yet another year over winter break. So, by spring of my sophomore year, I was in AP German with seniors. I scored a 4 on the AP exam and beginning in the fall of my Junior year I began taking classes and University of Nebraska - Omaha. It was in my junior year I applied for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange. I won and spent my entire senior year of high school at Martin Luther Gymnasium in Hartha, Germany. Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education.
