FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY TUTOR (K-12) [email protected]

I use a Reciprocal/Practice based tutoring style. This an effective method because it allows me to interact with the student and help them grow more efficiently while holding an open discussion environment in each lesson. I then reinforce it with practice based assignments which are followed up with reviews in the beginning of the following class. This makes the student not only memorize definitions, but to also understand the reasoning behind different concepts.
Business student at Florida Atlantic University. I graduated from A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts with honors in the visual arts, specializing in Architecture and Mathematics. I have also tutored for 4 years now while in school by teaching a wide variety of subjects to students from the ages of 5-20.

My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : Taught state test writing preparation for many years in Massachusetts public alternative schools. Tutor extensively to prepare students for state and college exams.

After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling was teaching. I began teaching English, Journalism, S.A.T. Prep., Latin, and other subjects in Springfield, MA in 2003 in an alternative, urban high school. I taught (and tutored after school) until I moved to Florida in 2009, when my spouse began graduate studies at U.S.F. Since then, I have continued to tutor a wide range of students in subjects ranging from high school Latin, 5th grade Math, college English, S.A.T. and G.E.D. Preparation, and graduate level writing, and I have extensive training and experience with students who struggle with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and ESL issues, as well as with children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).
I believe that all students can and will achieve ... read more

My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : I like to start working with my 4th graders that are going to take the Florida Writes for the first time earlier in the year. I go over with them what a good story needs the beginning and ending paragraph and the 3 middle ones. I work on the different paragraphs during the year with different topics to give them practice beforehand and usually a month before the test they are usually pretty confident and familiar with the whole process.

My students enjoy coming to lessons with Ms. Sharon. I make them feel comfortable, and always encourage them to ask me questions. I have Five (plus) years of professional tutoring experience specializing in English and Elementary Math. I have three years of substitute teaching experience, during which time I worked with students in grades 1-6. I also have three years of full-time classroom teaching experience, during which time I taught 3rd, 5th, and 1st grades. In the two years since I left the classroom, I have become a homeschool evaluator, test administrator, and tutor.
I have experience with differentiated instruction which has helped a lot in my tutoring business. I help my students find their unique learning style and then use that style in my lessons. For example, a couple of my students are kinesthetic (hands-on) learners so I use flashcards, coins, and other manipulatives to help them master math skills.
