My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I have been trained in several phonics and reading programs including Spector Phonics and Wilson Reading. The phonics program helps with basic sound symbol association of the english alphabet in order to build words based on sound connection with the symbol or letter as opposed to rote memorization. I include a a word sight list for age or grade range.
