This program is a weekly volunteer experience to travel to an elementary school in Downtown Minneapolis. The program helps me to tutor students in grades K-5. As a tutor in the college-prep after-school program Upward Bound,I helped students understand Chemistry concepts for 7 years, and know where the basic pitfalls are. I have also taught Plant Science at the college level I start by giving a diagnostic test to assess each student's proficiency in the basics of Arithmetic and Algebra: fractions, decimals, percentages and the interconversion between them,and the rules of working with signed numbers. This approach stems from the notion that without these basics, Math is an uphill climb for most students. I place more emphasis on full work than answers.
