I have taught elementary education as a classroom teacher for over twelve years in both public and private settings. I held a valid OH teacher's certificate in 1992 but did not need it here in CO as I taught in private schools, so it has lapsed. I have maintained my own tutoring business over the last ten years and worked with students ages 5-14 (primarily 6-10) in subjects ranging from reading to math to study skills. My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
