As an educator in math and science, subjects viewed by many students as “hard” or “boring,” I strongly believe that these fields need not be viewed this way. Teachers who have a strong background in math and science, such as myself, can more easily relate class work to everyday life and career prospects, making the subject more relevant and interesting. I worked as a Chemistry lab TA in college and I taught the labs. As a graduate student I trained other grad students and techs, often taking them through 10 to 12 weeks of continuous mentoring. I have 3 years of project management experience. I hired and trained all the technicians for a small lab. This training in all instances included hands on as well as subject matter.
My primary objective is for the students I teach to understand the concepts and do as well as they are capable in the courses. In addition, I want the students I teach to develop critical thinking and the ability to problem solve. I can accomplish this by being knowledgeable, citing examples and answering questions in a way that can help them to better understand the subject matter.
