To make my teaching more effective, I usually psyche my student to see how the mood to learn is. Should the mood be down at first, I would just come up with something fun, educative, something that can help to boost someone's IQ score. English ESOL is one of my top subjects! I learned English as a second language (my first language is Russian) and I know how to help and teach students learning ESL because I went through this process myself. It involves much more than learning just grammar and pronunciation...one should learn new cultural norms of communication which could be very different from your native culture.
