I believe that science has a undeserved reputation for difficulty as a subject that is directly related to the inability of many teachers to "break it down". Science can seem to be like a foreign language to the uninitiated, but at its essence science is simply a way of thinking about the world and asking questions. Several themes appear again and again in concepts that on the surface may seem unrelated and it is recognizing these themes that is the key to success in building knowledge and confidence. My teaching philosophy is to point out these common threads binding various topics in science and relate it to the real world as quickly as possible, always with the goal of breaking it down to its simplest explanation.
