Experience Summary
My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. After graduating with a 4.0 from Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham, AL, I went to Auburn University to pursue an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree. After a few years of working as an Engineer with Alabama Power Company, I studied to earn my Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.I believe that having a broad knowledge of all subjects is very important. A few years ago, I decided to leave my corporate job and stay at home to raise my child. I had always loved teaching, so I began to work on my teaching degree online. I am currently in school to go back and teach high school math.
I am a bit of a math nerd but LOVE to read, so I enjoy English as well. I specialize in teaching math and English at all levels. I also can teach test preparation, study skills and various computer programs. I am an expert in Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
I have always loved teaching others. I cannot remember a time when I wasn't helping others learn. I tutored throughout high school and college, and part of my job at the power company was training other employees or customers on Alabama Power's rates and regulations. I am very patient and try to make subjects exciting and challenging. I like to find out about the students' learning style and try to tailor my teaching so that the student learns best.
I want to get to know each student and them get to know me so that the student feels comfortable with me. Before our first session I like to talk on the phone to establish goals and get to know each other. I usually meet with the student at a nearby public library, but am open to meeting wherever the student feels comfortable
