Born and raised in northern China, I speak standard Mandarin. With my Bachelor’s degree in Chinese language and a keen interest in language and culture, I have offered professional Chinese language training to hundreds of Westerners, adults and children alike. As a tutor in Shanghai for the past seven years, I have helped my students understand Chinese language, culture and people. What do the students say?
Juan is a great teacher. She is both demanding and flexible. To learn Chinese and the subtle distinctions between tones, you have to repeat the words again and again. Juan sets the pace. She also knows when to give you a rest. She will then tell you the story of a character, or take time for small talk, provided it’s in Mandarin. She is very good a creating conversations based on what is here and now… At the end of a class with her, I was always eager to schedule the next one.
