Experience Summary
My passion for teaching comes from a desire to learn and teach about new experiences. As a graduate from Strayer University, I am a living testimony that hard work and dedication to learn pays off. For six years working as a tutor and teaching have been the most rewarding jobs I had. I feel I am making a difference in the lives of the students I teach, as I observe them gaining more knowledge and watching their grades increase.
The subjects I specialize tutoring in are English, ESL/ESOL, Reading, Writing, and Marine Biology. While attending Clayton State University, I was known for having great writing and reading skills by students who were in my study groups at the beginning of the term. Many times, they would ask me to review their paper and correct errors found in their paper, so I decided to work in the learning support center in my junior year of college. I provided academic assistance to students in Writing, Reading, and English. Many times, I received feedback from students that my help was a result of their grades improving, and they were able to read and write better than they were able to before. Additionally, I helped students in the subject of Marine Biology and Environmental Science. Due to studying those other two subjects and watching nature documentaries, I had enough knowledge to help students in those subject areas. After I graduated from Clayton State University with my degree in psychology, and rewards in first place in English 1101 and Reading 98, I volunteered at a refugee center where I had the opportunity to interact with children and adults from other ethnic backgrounds of other foreign countries. During my time at the refugee center, I tutored children in the afterschool program who needed help academically and homework assistance. For the most part, students who I tutored exceled academically and moved on to the next grade level. Also, I served as an ESL teacher assistant in the adult classes. As the teacher assistant, I observed the classes and had the privilege of teaching the lessons whenever the teacher was absent, or the class was broken into small groups. Having a love for cultural diversity is a rewarding opportunity to tutor and teach students from other denominations; I could not ask for a better occupation that gives me an opportunity to travel and experience the world while making a difference in the places I go.
Teaching Style
I believe in keeping an open mind which is why my time is flexible. I want to ensure students who work with me have a comfortable place to study while working with me. I will be happy to travel to any location that is convenient for both the student and I. I hold myself at a high standard especially in the work I do. Assessments and practice exercises are given, so I can see what level my students are at academically. One thing I ask is that feedback be given to me and communicate any learning styles that there may be an awareness of. I want to see students succeed, and if there are any questions or concerns, contact me at any time.
