Experience Summary
Throughout high school I tutored students aged 9-14 in a variety of subjects ranging from math to music. I have also tutored informally as a college student, mostly helping coach peers through lower-division physics or math series. In addition, I volunteered for 5 years as a teachers assistent in an elementary and middle school setting, so I understand the dynamics of working with (sometimes large) groups of students.
Teaching Style
Problem solving is the best way to learn a technical skill. For instance, in mathematics homework usually consists of a set of problems that the student must solve. By watching how students approach and solve these problems, I can both assess the student's understanding of the material and help them make the logical connections needed to better understand the material. Additionally, I encourage students to adopt the mentality that science and math can actually be fun and a worthwhile use of time.
My Hobbies
Outside of academics I do a variety of activities. I lead an active lifestyle, playing sports and 'working out' frequently. I also 'do music', as I am an avid singer and pianist. Oh and I can juggle too. I was in a circus once.
