Experience Summary
I am an experienced and compassionate educator who worked within the Chicago Public School system at the same elementary school for 33 years. I taught and collaborated with the fourth grade team in the development and implementation of appropriate curriculum. I worked with the special education department to develop individualized learning plans for at-risk students. I also worked in the gifted program to provide above average students with a challenging curriculum appropriate to their needs. I was the coordinator for the after-school programs under the "No Child Left Behind" initiative. In that position, I placed students in individual programs specific to their needs.
I worked as the computer resource teacher for grades 3-8 for 13 years. In this position, I was able to improve and remediate students' performance in the subjects contained in the approved school curriculum. Most importantly, I was able to instruct and improve my students' study skills and research abilities, as well as instructing them in basic computing skills. Students were instructed in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications, as well as proper use of the Internet.
Teaching Style
I feel I provide a positive learning experience and atmosphere for students of all abilities at the elementary level. I use a hands-on approach when instructing students and give them freedom to express themselves in challenging students in creative assignments.
