Teaching Style

Teaching Philosophy I am a very good teacher by nature and have excellent track record in my previous classes where students were always learning and passed the test with high scores. I have frequently heard from my students that they have learnt in my class way more than their entire studying period in the university. I always make sure that I dedicate enough time to teaching the context of each concept first so that students know exactly where and how they should expect to see application of the knowledge they have obtained. There was a class project with Otter Tail Power Company while I was studying PhD, given by the regional protection manager of the company. The manager didn't give much detail on the project since it had been accomplished many years ago in the company and there wasn't much information in the company regarding how it was done. He handed out the power system drawings, calculations which were partially done in the company, and some related charts and tables. My adviser Dr. Salehfar asked me to help students with the projects. I gave several lectures to students, starting with a brief introduction on power system as related to the project, and then zoomed in to the project to make students familiar with how the project relates to a power system in general, and how they should approach it. Then I described the project, the given drawings and tables and explained how to use them. In each case I gave them a general picture, broke down the given information, analyzed the work done in the company, and described how to use these data to move ahead and find the unknowns. The second time that Otter Tail Power Company manager came to class to check on students’ progress, he was astonished by amount of progress students had made on the project given the little time and unavailability of large portion of data on the project.
