Experience Summary
I received my bachelor degree in elementary education. After having my two daughters, I went to graduate school and achieved a masters degree as a Reading Specialist. I was a graduate assistant and taught in a learning center for two years while earning my masters degree. Upon graduation I was an adjunct professor at C.W. Post, taught reading at a private school, a public school and then worked full time managing the reading department In an elementary school for eighteen years. During that time I had the opportunity to teach a support before school program, summer literacy as the lead teacher, creating my curriculum and a Saturday Academy in the middle school teaching study skills and test prep.

My teaching style is very structured due to my training, however, I can be extremely creative and motivating with the most challenging students!
My Hobbies
My hobbies include reading, I am an insane knitter and I love caring for and riding horses.

I have taught reading skills for 25 years. I am certified in the WILSON Reading System. This is a very structured
program utilizing a multi sensory approach. It teaches the basic sound symbol relationships
through the manipulation of cards, fingers and tiles. Additionally it incorporates writing skills and comprehension. It is predictable for the learner and the students thrive on the systematic yet creative approach This system is extremely effective for the most challenged children! |

Reading comprehension purposes need to be set prior to the reading task. Each structured skill can be identified through the reading and rereading and underlining the necessary information to the specific task. It is a fun searching skill. The younger students love being detectives!! |
