Experience Summary
I have worked as a tutor for 10 years in all subjects, especially focusing on ESL learners. Recently, I have worked in an ESL school (FLS International) with university age students seeking to matriculate into American Universities. Before that, I worked in South Korea teaching English. While employed at these schools, I also work part-time as a tutor- mostly for middle and high school age students. Many of my students struggle with time management, and this is a main focus in my tutoring sessions.
Teaching Style
I hate lecturing! I do! This is why my tutoring style is very interactive. I don't like talking AT a person, I prefer to have a conversation. My goal as a tutor is to make subjects interesting, and also to make sure they stick- so you can do well on exams. I also teach study skills in every session, so ideally you won't have to rely on me forever. I try to give students tools that they can use to teach them how to teach themselves- something they'll have to do if they're considering college.
My Hobbies
My hobbies range from watching Netflix, to laser tag, and everything in between. I'm getting married this month, so my newest hobby is opening wedding presents! One of my all-time favorite things though, is curling up on the couch with an excellent book.
Other Comments
My goal as an educator is not to waste time, but to help students learn how to succeed on their own. I don't want students to use me as a crutch, but rather as a step ladder to get them to a place where they no longer require me.
