About Me

Experience Summary

3 years of combined experience in education and tutoring. Most recently I worked as an instructor at a tutoring center for grades k-12 where I provided one-on-one help to students in various areas (including elementary math, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, general study skills/strategies, and test preparation). My focus is in assisting students who struggle in different areas of math from the elementary to college level.

Teaching Style

I aim to design a unique tutoring plan for each student based on several factors. For me, finding out WHY a student is struggling with something is important. Rather than being a matter of simply being "good or bad at" a subject, several components are involved in learning and academic performance. When working and talking with a student, I can often discover and address negative factors they've encountered in learning. I also work with each student to understand how they process information and if they have a particular learning style. This information is helpful in customizing a tutoring plan that will best facilitate learning.

My Hobbies

Playing Nintendo DS, caring for my pet guinea pigs, mathematical puzzles, reading.

Other Comments

I believe anyone can improve understanding of a subject if the material is presented in a way that engages attention and is explained in terms that make sense to the learner. I am passionate about helping others to see the significance of math-- how the concepts can be observed in all areas of life, as well as its many practical applications.
