Experience Summary

While pursuing my Ph.D. in chemistry, I not only taught required general chemistry labs and lectures at the university I attended, I also tutored both college and high school students in various fields of math and science. I have over 7 years of tutoring experience at all levels of biology, chemistry, physics, and math. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I tutor groups of 2-5 students. Teaching lectures of 60+ students at both SDSU and UCSD has prepared me to effectively deliver material to groups. By holding office hours, I was able to better interact with students individually, to better aid them in understanding the material. Both of these teaching environments have led me to become an effective tutor.

Teaching Style

I typically begin with the homework assigned by the students teacher, as theses are most often the questions that appear on the tests. Reviewing the practice tests, if available, is also key, as many teachers use only slightly modified versions for the real test. For more advanced students, or those wishing to earn the highest marks, I will design extra problems, both conceptual and mathematic based, to continue to challenge them. This can include something a simple as more problems to work on, or as complex as having the student re-write previous problems to give them a chance to see all the different angles that the concept can be tested.

My Hobbies

My hobbies include outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and snowboarding. I enjoy running both to stay fit as well as a chance to think on the day. Lounging around the house and watching TV/movies is a favorite pastime as well, especially when the outdoor weather is not being friendly.

Other Comments

I believe I can help you or your child reach the next level in education. Several of my college students have begun or are finishing graduate schools such as Ph.D., medical school, and law school. My high school students have all received top marks on the AP tests I have prepared them for in chemistry and biology, and have gone on to receive A's (with one turning his D to this).
