Experience Summary
I am an advanced PhD student in Classics at the University of Chicago and have been teaching introductory and intermediate college level Latin courses since 2010. In addition to teaching during the regular school year, I have spent three summers as an instructor and course assistant in the University of Chicago's intensive summer program in Latin and Greek. These summer courses were attended by a wide range of students, from 9th graders to PhD students to high school teachers. I have also tutored at both the high school and college level.
Teaching Style
I believe in tailoring my teaching to the needs, unique interests, and learning style of the individual students. This is one of the reasons why I find tutoring to be particularly rewarding, since this targeted, individualized style of teaching is much more feasible in a one-on-one environment than in a classroom with twenty students. I like to combine my presentation of the Latin language with discussion of ancient history and the building blocks of languages so that my students have a cultural context for the language they are learning and come away with a better understanding of the structure and history of their own language as well.
My Hobbies
I am an amateur graphic artist and musical theater enthusiast. I am an avid reader of classic fantasy and science fiction, a recreational writer, and a passionate devotee of classical music, opera, and ballet. I love to travel, lived in Europe for several years, and have visited over a dozen countries.
