About Me

Experience Summary

Holding a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics, I have knowledge of both Mathematics and its application to Economics as well as other real world situations. I have advanced experience on tutoring high school students and college students in courses like PreCalculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics, Combinatorics and Probability, Econometrics, Calculus I, Calculus II and Calculus III and MicroEconomics and MacroEconomics as well as International Economics. I have also worked as a teaching assistant at Oglethorpe University. While I was in university, I was consistently given excellent feedback. I was a high demand tutor in both Mathematics and Economics. Although, I only had four regular hours a week, I used to get more than seven hours of extra hours per week. Some of the reasons are I give students simple and real world examples to help them understand complex problems. It is always a delight when I see a student say, "Oh yeah, I get it now, awesome!" Students tend to miss very simple details and ignore them. I always alert students on going through every step of problem solving and make them understand instead of just "get the answer" mentality. While some students are very quick in learning, some are not. I have had both of them. Throughout my tutoring sessions, I have always been very patient. Students tend to be frustrated if they don't get it right away. I have always been excellent in making students feel special and comfortable so that they are get what they need. Now, I have graduated, I want to extend my knowledge and experience that I have gained to anybody.

Teaching Style

I involve students a lot during the learning period. I consistently ask them questions about the topic and let them think for a while. I give them as much information as possible so that they do not miss any information while solving problems. I make students write. That is how they learn. I consistently give students concepts and them demonstrate with sample questions.

Subject Commentary

Algebra Proficiency: Expert
As one of the most important areas of Mathematics that can be utilized in various other branches of Mathematics and real life applications like Optimization, Econometrics and so on, Algebra needs a very good foundation. Algebra 1 teaches students various concepts, tools and techniques to understand basic linear equations and inequalities, word problems and hence apply them later in more advanced courses. It is crucial that a student knows how to work with fractions; both constants and variables, indices, linear equations, quadratics, polynomials, rational expressions and radical expressions as well as basic probability and data analysis. These topics will prepare student for further advancement and understanding.
Algebra I This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert

Algebra II This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I have tutored Algebra 2 for more than two years now. I have used various technological tools like Maple and WebAssign to help students solve complex problems. My approach to helping students learn algebra is to consistently remind them of basic stuff while they delve themselves into complex problems. I like to tell students, "You are working too hard." This means, I have a better and simpler way of understanding and solving the problem. When students get too submerged into problems, they tend to forget basic stuff. That is where reminding them of basic concepts becomes important. One of the examples is when students see a really long equation, they automatically think it involves some complex formulas and techniques while it can be just broken down with simple concepts.
ASVAB This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I have been preparing students for ASVAB at various levels. I specialize mostly in General Mathematics and Arithmetic Reasoning. Sometimes, I assist students in Science as well. Having understood the need of both basic algebraic and arithmetic expressions, I improve students performance in Arithmetic reasoning. The arithmetic reasoning also called word problems, if not analyzed and learned well can lead to poor performance. I make students understand complex word problems by giving simple real life examples to compare which helps them understand the problem. My philosophy is to not think, it is complex math but a simple real life word problem.
Calculus I Proficiency: Experienced
Having taken Calculus in high school as well as college with grades of A, I have extensive learning, training and thorough understanding of Calculus I, Calculus II and Calculus III. Similarly, I have self-taught Calculus IV as well. While I was at college, I used to help my friends with their homework, practice and concept development to perform better in their tests. I was consistently the best student. After completing Calculus sequence, I started tutoring the course to junior students at various levels. While Calculus involves a lot of limits, derivatives, integrations, functions, vectors, trigonometry and algebra, it is not limited to only those areas.
Calculus II Proficiency: Experienced

Chess Proficiency: Expert
I have been playing chess since my childhood and I am good at it. During my college, I was a finalist in a chess tournament that was conducted on Hogwarts day. I played on the quad with students as chess pieces dressed in corresponding ones. I won all the qualifying games and lost against my Mathematics professor in championship. In my college, it is a glory for my friends to win against me. I play random and strategic. My random play is such that the opponent cannot predict my moves. If the opponent is playing with strategy, I deploy my defense strategy as well as offense. My favorite piece in chess is knight.
Geometry Proficiency: Expert
Geometry, as one of the foundations of Mathematics, involves study of various shapes and sizes which relates to algebra and trigonometry. Geometry includes topics like points, lines, planes, triangles, squares, rectangles and other figures. The study involves proofs like congruent triangles, relationships, areas, perimeters, volumes, angles and total angles.
Pre-Algebra Proficiency: Expert
Prealgebra as a foundation for Algebra and other areas of Mathematics needs to be taught in a way that a student never forgets the tools and techniques. Having taught both high level and basic Mathematics courses, I urge people to master basic concepts in Algebra. Even students in higher Mathematics classes seem to struggle with simple algebraic expressions, which is outcome of weak Prealgebra foundation. I believe in making that foundation stronger.
Pre-Calculus Proficiency: Expert
I have been working with PreCalculus students mostly at college level. However, I have tutored students in high school as well to prepare for their various PreCalculus related tests. I have used tools like webassign for effective learning. While PreCalculus involves basic foundations of Calculus but not exactly calculus, it is very important that a student creates an unforgettable base for Calculus as well as for tests. The topics include, but not limited to, sets, real numbers, complex numbers, functions, conic sections, inequalities, equations, trigonometric identities and functions, sequence and series, parametric equations, binomial theorem, polar coordinates, matrices and determinants, limits, polynomial functions, rational functions, inverses of functions and vectors.
SQL Proficiency: Experienced
Currently, I work as a ETL/Data Analyst. The role entails handling large amounts of data using various softwares. SQL is one of them which I use for querying, building functions, procedures and triggers and so on.
Trigonometry Proficiency: Expert
Not a lot of people seem to care about what trigonometry actually means. First thing they have in mind is sine, cosine and tangent with theta tagged on them. Trigonometry comes from combination of Greek word "trigon" meaning triangle and "metron" meaning measure. Therefore, trigonometry is the measure of triangle regarding its sides, height, angle and areas. So where do other geometric figures come then? We still see sines, cosines and tangents, right? Well, every geometric figure at a minute level can be thought of as a triangle and thus those sines, cosines and tangents. Trigonometry deals with various identical relationships of sides and angles, henceforth.
