Experience Summary
I have worked as a commissioned portrait artist for 5 years. I have worked with a variety of clients and created an extensive portfolio that includes child portraits, dog portraits, architectural drawings, still-lifes, landscapes, and custom paintings for interior design purposes.
For the past 4 summers, I have worked at an Art Camp, creating fun and interactive art lessons for girls ages 6-13. As an art instructor I successfully built upon each students studio art skills by incorporating basic drawing, painting and watercolor skills into daily activities and encouraging collaborative art amongst the students. I learned to develop therapeutic and educational art lessons that would be accommodate variety of students including those with disabilities.
Teaching Style
I believe that the most important aspect to art education is individual expression. Children and artists alike must understand that art is subjective, and the beauty of their work lies in it's meaning and purpose. However, I do believe in working hard to improve on personal studio skills. I teach the fundamentals: line, tone, perspective, space, volume. Once students understand the basics, there will be no limits as to how much they can create. I am also a firm believer in collaboration. When artists work together, they gain an appreciation for new art and techniques. Learning to visualize and vocalize ideas to others helps students connect to the world around them.
