Experience Summary
ACT/SAT tutoring:
I have prepared high-school students for the ACT and SAT online and in person. I am a high school English teacher and taught the SAT writing section for three years to eleventh-grade students. I specialize in preparing students for English and Reading tests.
Elementary Tutoring:
For four years, I tutored first and second graders in Language Arts. Their parents, their teachers, and I have seen remarkable improvements. When I started working with one girl, she knew how to pronounce only a few letters. She now reads at 34 words per minute and her teacher told her mom that her new-found confidence is carrying over into every subject.
I will help your child succeed and this summer is a great opportunity to start.
College Writing Tutoring: At Wayne State University, I tutored undergrad and graduate WSU students in all steps of the writing process.
Proofreading: Finally, I am well versed in proofreading as I tutor many ESL students at Wayne State and am certified as a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language Specialist.
My Hobbies
In May 2015 I received my Master's degree in teaching. I have maintained a 3.9 GPA during my time in graduate school.
I currently teach high school students but I have extensive experience with elementary and college students as well.
In my free time I enjoy cooking Mexican dishes, hanging out with my family, and reading. I have a passion for teaching and helping younger children. Since 2008 I have spent my summers running and coordinating the ABC Reading Program. This is a free reading program for low income children, ages 7-12 and 13-16.
A fun fact is that I can understand Sicilian as my mom was born there and I grew up with grandparents who did not speak English.
