Additional Policies:

Price will vary based on total number of clients, total number of sessions per week, your number of sessions per week, the total length of all sessions, the length of your sessions, the distance traveled, the method of payment and whether or not you pay up front and are subject to vary from month-to-month based on these conditions. My base rate is minimum wage per hour, a $5 materials charge, 90 minutes of prep time at minimum wage and federal mileage reimbursement of 54.5 cents per mile round trip rounded to the nearest quarter. Each of these factors can be reviewed on a case by case basis. Group sessions are capped at four persons and each additional person receives a half-off plus mileage discount. This could be prorated to be equal for each person. Clients who pay per session by check receive no discount and agree to pay any fees I incur should your check bounce. However, should you decide to pay for a month upfront, you will receive $1 off per hour. If you pay in cash per session, you will also receive $1 off per hour for my convenience. If you pay in cash for a month up front, you will receive $2 off per hour. A written receipt will be provided for tax purposes. Discounts are also available for making referrals. Make-ups will be allowed for clients who pay up front based on the following scale: Weekday evening sessions are canceled by 4 PM the day of the session, weekend morning sessions are canceled by 7 AM the day of the session, weekend afternoon or evening sessions are canceled with at least four hours notice. Make-ups will be allowed for clients who do not pay up front based on the following scale: Weekday evening sessions are canceled by 9 AM the day of the session, weekend morning sessions are canceled by 9 PM the night before the session, weekend afternoon sessions are canceled by 7 AM the day of the session and weekend evening sessions are canceled by noon the day of the session. Make-ups are subject to availability. Price also includes monthly subscription fee to Tutor Select. Sorry! Please note I do file Self – Employment tax on all tutoring income. I will let you know any advance notice cancellations for the month at that month’s first session; you will be able to choose a make-up date or will simply not be charged for any cancellations I make.

I have a BS in Political Science and Broadcast Communications and a Masters in Secondary Education of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. When working with D/deaf and Hard of Hearing students, everything involves teaching language (reading, writing, vocabulary). I tutored a 3rd grader with Bipolar and Oppositional Defiant Disorder in Reading and assisted another 3rd grader with Asperger's Syndrome in Reading. In addition, I tutored 2 brothers from grades 4/5-6/7 in Reading. I scored Intermediate on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview, but have regressed to a Survival Plus as of last assessment. I am a certified Teacher of the Deaf with a Masters degree from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. I took ASL I, 2 different ASL II courses, ASL IV, Structure of ASL and Dynamic Diagnostic. I have taught D/deaf and Hard of Hearing students using a Total Communication approach. I have experience with Simultaneous Communication (signing while speaking), Conceptually Accurate Signed English and Contact Sign. I was in the process of becoming an Independent Certified Instructor and Early Childhood Educator for the Baby Signs program when it went bankrupt. I also worked temporarily as a Teacher of the Deaf providing communications services to students with Autism and multiple disabilities and as an Early Interventionist developing an adaptive home sign system for expressive communication for a 3 year-old with a trache.

I student taught grades 9 and 10 Global History and Geography preparing D/deaf and Hard of Hearing students for the Regents exam especially the DBQ, grade 11 US History and Government and grade 12 Economics. I have a BS in Political Science, nearly had enough credits for a minor in History and have substitute taught Participation in Government, AP Government, grades 7 and 8 American History, Economics, AP Macroeconomics, grades 9 and 10 Global History and Geography (also taught Summer School), US History and Government, grades 5 (also tutored) and 6 Social Studies, War and Genocide, Psychology and Sociology.
