Experience Summary
I have always been a very curious and academic person. I love to learn and like to pass that on to my students. It makes it easier because I have really lived a lot of the things I teach.
I grew up in a small town in Idaho and excelled in both my Math and Science classes. At 16 I decided I needed to see the world so I moved to Argentina as an exchange student. I spent a year learning both the culture and language of the country. I was able to travel a lot and really felt like a member of their society.
I returned and finished my senior year of high school. I was in the top 10% of my class at graduation with a 3.8GPA. After a 4 month stay in Argentina again I was off to college to study Business and Spanish at Louisiana State University. I excelled in my Spanish and loved being in business. During my junior year I spent 6 months in Costa Rica, and a month in Peru continuing my Spanish Education. I decided to graduate in 3.5 years and continue education by pursuing my Master’s degree in Business from Boise State.
While attending LSU I tutored students in Spanish at both the collegiate and secondary level. During my time at Boise State I worked as a substitute teacher primarily in the spanish, elementary education, and science classes. I also spent time during the summer working at the school with ELL students.
After graduating I accepted a position with a local disaster restoration company as their director of Business Development. I then pursued my dreams to Georgia working with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Teaching Style
I believe that a lack of success in academic's is usually attributed to one of two things; a lack of motivation(it's not fun enough) or a misunderstanding of the fundamentals(which brings a feeling of hopelessness). This is particularly true in foreign languages. Many times a person must rewire their brain when it comes to learning a new language. My goal in tutoring is to help students not just fix a problem but create an overall understanding of what they are learning.
I also like to focus on making goals and increasing motivation to learn. It is important to me to teach not only those skills but work on life values like respect, curiosity, creativity, and comprehension.
My Hobbies
I love to learn and that is reflected in my hobbies. I love to read, dance, be out doors, and work out. I am a sports nut, particularly college football(LSU, Geaux Tigers). I have coached in the past and would love to get back into that. I also served as a board member for the red cross and been part of rotary international; giving back is a huge part of my life.
