Experience Summary
I am a visual artist, independent curator, and former gallery owner. I have 20 years experience in the arts, I am currently chair of exhibitions at Howard Co Center for the arts. I have curated exhibitions for major art fairs in New York, Miami and Berlin. My paintings are in the collection of Hoffberger Foundation, Haifa University, and Warner Bros Studio, and have recently exhibited in Berlin, Germany. I have studied painting with Ephraim Rubenstein, Art Students League, and private study with Mark Karnes of Maryland Institute College of Art.
Teaching Style
The style of painting I was taught and implement in my own work, is observational realism, which comes from a tradition of color spot theory. A traditional approach to painting that teaches the student how to "see", thus developing a personal style through formal training. Understanding materials through academic training provides the student with options for self expression.
My Hobbies
I love to cook and research ethic cuisine, having just reviewed a cookbook for Persianesque magazine. I blog about food and painting. I am an amateur archaeologist. In the past few years, I joined University of Haifa, on their 9th year of digging at Sussita, a Hellenistic site near Lake Kinneret . I am an avid traveler, antiquity and natural history collector.
Other Comments
Currently I am painting my way through the year with small studies of all things ephemeral, transforming objects into evocative personal symbols, all the while maintaining their living qualities through the poetic language of observational painting. That simple.
