Experience Summary
I am recent graduate of Grand Canyon University and I completed my student teaching with Atlanta Public Schools while working in a Special Needs Kindergarten and First grade class. I worked with the lead teacher to prepared modified and differentiated lessons for students.
I also served as a special needs paraprofessional in an Autism/MOID class. In this class, I assisted in teaching modified instruction, rotation stations, and life skills. I also assisted with assistive technology, feeding, and toileting. Curriculum
I have worked in as a long term substitute in special needs self contained Pre-K and Kindergarten class at S.L. Lewis School in Fulton County. I have worked with special education staff on setting IEP goals, objectives, and conducting meetings. I also was responsible for lesson planning and turning in grades.
Teaching Style
My teaching and classroom management style is very authoritative. I like to set clear and concise classroom rules and expectations. Teachers should take time to set rules in a visible place for students, review them daily, and have consequences when the rules are not followed. However, students will be acknowledged for doing the right thing through classroom recognition or a prize. Students should have a set routine each day. This will allow them to know and understand what to expect with the classroom. If the routine has to be changed, this is explained ahead of time and students are guided into the transition. This will alleviate discipline problems.
My Hobbies
I am a writer. I recent published a children's book entitled " The Reading Adventures of Tiki and Juan". I also give voice lessons in my spear time.
