About Me

Experience Summary

I am currently a school-age teacher at an afterschool child development program. I have my 12 E.C.E units to teach in such an afterschool program as a teacher. I have taught a afterschool based curriculum at two seperate child development centers, for a total of 6 1/2 years. I began tutoring at Diablo Valley College in Algebra. I worked with young adults and adults with learning disabilities. I also tutored Basic Math. I have also tutored for a tutoring company in the subjects of Spelling and Reading Comprehension. While I worked in the afterschool programs, I tutored in their homework clubs. The subjects that I helped the children with were Reading, Spelling, Math, English, and Grammar. In my academic career, I began my educational background in math at Diablo Valley College. I started with Basic Elementary Math and Pre-Algebra. Then from there, I went on to higher level math. I took classes such as Algebra I, Algebra II, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus I. I graduated from DVC with my Associates of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. Then I took my last math course that I needed for my major, which is Cell and Molecular Biology. The last math course was Calculus II. Math is definetly one of my passions, but I have knowledge in so many more subjects such as Geometry, Vocabulary, Reading, Study Skills, Homework Help, and Biology. I am a very self-motivated, energetic, and positive teacher/tutor. I love helping children and adults succeed in their studies. It makes me feel good to know that my students understand their course material. I believe that everyone can succeed in school, and in life, I have found that learning can be fun and exciting, if you are taught the right things in an effective way. Learning is not something that stops, learning is something that continues for a lifetime.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is multi-dimensional, and personally tailored to each specific student. Each student is unique and special. Everyone has a different learning style, which means each person has different need in terms of how they learn. I learn about each student, and take the time to figure out how they take in information. Also how they best understand their course material, and whether their learning style is Visual, Auditory, or Kinesthetic. Perhaps a person's learning style is a combination of these three things. When I teach, I use colors (pens/markers), diagrams, figures, counting figures(ex: colored counting bears), and a writing board to work out/solve math problems. When tutoring in Reading, Spelling, and Vocabulary I use the writing board, flash cards, and stories to help my students feel compforatble with their subjects. I listen to each one of my students, and ask them what work for them, and what things don't work for them. I want everyone to be compfortable, relaxed, and to succeed in learning their course material. Everyone is a winner!

My Hobbies

In my free time, I love to go running and to exercise. I like to stay healthy, and treat my heart well. I also enjoy writing poetry, and short stories. I am an artist, and I have a passion for painting with acrylic paints. I also sketch, and draw on my free time. I like to spend time with family, freinds, and positive people. I also like to sing, and listen to music. Doing crossword puzzles, and other forms of word and number puzzles are fun for me also.

Other Comments

I am always willing to learn things myself. If you as a parent would like me to help your child in a certain way, I am more than willing to use your suggestions. This can also help me better assist your child in their learning and mastery of their course material. I love academics and learning, and i try to help others feel the same way!
