About Me

Experience Summary

I began teaching Art to middle school students within the public school system in 1989. I began working with elementary grades in 1991. I began to pursue a master's degree in Education in 2007 through the University of Phoenix (UoP). The online experience and consistent communication with my instructors and classmates were invaluable. I have been able to perfect my writing, computer proficiency, and research skills through the various assignments required in the UoP teacher education program.

Teaching Style

I have always believed in "connecting the dots." Knowledge and learning cannot be strictly confined to subject-area teaching. For example, many academic subjects can be studied while one writes, makes art, to creates stories, practices problem solving, or invents solutions to problems we are facing in this modern age. Listening to students and providing opportunities for them to demonstrate knowledge is very important. I never want learning to bore a student. Once understanding is achieved, that knowledge should be put to use and new challenges should be introduced.

My Hobbies

I love to sing. I read music, sing both melody and harmony, and play a little piano. I dabble in writing both lyrics and melodies. I love animals and nature. I enjoy serving the Lord as I attend church and try to help those in need as much as I can. I am into protecting the environment and learning ways to reduce waste and pollution. I love crafts and scrapbooking aas well as creating original forms of art.

Other Comments

I believe that learning should be fun, and that if it is not, a student should at least receive an award or recognition for doing his or her best. Life is not always fun...it is sometimes hard work. Students must feel the means will justify the ends and understand why they should be learning. It is difficult to help students realize that knowledge can benefit them, but this must be done. I chose not to teach art full-time, as health and family responsibilities became demanding, but I love teaching and wish to stay involved as I continue to pursue my master's degree.
