Experience Summary

I majored in Journalism and minored in American History in college. Since then, I have worked in every aspect of journalism: TV and radio, public relations and marketing, newspaper reporting, magazine editing, advertising, direct mail, and websites. Most recently I received certification in Social Media and e-Marketing through the Chicago Career Tech Program and Tribeca Flashpoint Academy. In terms of teaching, I have tutored English to H'mong refugees and taught religious education in primary grades. I raised one son, who recently finished his master's degree in telecommunications. As a magazine editor, I also have trained and supervised writers, designers and photographers across the country, leading them to to 34 awards in national competition.

Teaching Style

I learned very early in my career that humor is essential to the learning process. I believe that lessons are learned much easier when they are connected to everyday life, such as current events and work or recreational pursuits. I have worked in libraries and am an avid reader and strong proponent of books. However, I am equally comfortable working on PC and Mac computers as well, and know Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop and other CS Suite programs.

Photography, biking, travel.

Other Comments

I have traveled to most parts of the U.S. as well as Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Canada, France and the Marshall Islands in the Pacific, so I am very comfortable working with many different cultures: Alaskan Natives and Native Americans on reservations from New York to South Dakota to Arizona, Vietnamese boat people in Florida, Haitian refugees in North Carolina, Hispanic migrant workers in Arizona and Georgia, and H'Mong refugees in Chicago.
