Other Comments

My French teaching experience is broad and deep. Recently, I taught French at Monmouth Academy in Howell, New Jersey. Previously, I had taught at Kingsway Regional High School in Woolwich Township, New Jersey and at Carusi Middle School, Cherry Hill, New Jersey. I have also been a French teacher at Vineland High School, Vineland, N.J., where I instructed German as well; Chestnut Ridge Middle School, Washington Township, N.J., Southern Regional High School, Manahawkin, N.J, Valley Forge Military Academy and Drexel University. I know the requirements of the International Baccalaureate Curriculum as well as those of the Advanced Placement course in French. I have also taught French language and literature courses at Drexel University, and tutored senior executives at CertainTeed Corp. in French for purposes of science and engineering. In my earliest assignment, I instructed fifth through eighth graders at Westminster Academy, in Annandale, Virginia, and enabled the eighth graders to place second in the National French Contest. The sheer delight I take in speaking French and German and the fascination I have with languages other than my own are significant factors in my drive to obtain a full-time teaching job. I would hope to foster a similar delight in my students, who face a culturally diverse world I could not have imagined at their age. I also look forward to the back-and-forth with young people that would spring from such a position. As the father of daughters, 24 and 12, and a son, 20, I can attest that efforts to make a young person see the light can at times enlighten the adult. My work with young people began before I became a schoolteacher. For three years, I worked at Camp Tecumseh, an all boys’ camp on Lake Winnepesaukee in Center Harbor, New Hampshire. I was a senior counselor to different age groups and helped coach various sports. I also organized dances for the campers with neighboring girls’ camps. I would like to pick up coaching again. Having played center guard at Penn Charter on its undefeated football team of 1967, I would be most useful coaching the line in football. As a former high school wrestler, I could instruct in that sport. And as a college oarsman – our boat placed third in the Dad Vail Regatta – I would be eager to coach crew. However, I could be just as useful as an adviser to the French or German Club. Of course, I would be happy to lead overseas trips to France and Germany over winter and spring breaks and to head up student exchanges. Sincerely, Richard E. Stanley
