About Me

Experience Summary

Throughout my successful career as a teacher and school counselor, I've instructed every level from kindergarten to college level. Likewise I've had the privilege of working with various cultures, ages and achievement levels. Due to my certification and years of experience I've taught every subject area in grades K-8, worked with high school students in language arts and sciences, assisted with study skills and test preparation and taught reading to adults as well as other college level classes. I have a reading endorsement and a counseling psychology certification so I am versed in Special Education issue also. My satisfaction comes when my students understand a concept, gain confidence as a learner and a person and reaches their full potential. For the last two years I have been involved in tutoring and I find it even more exciting and satisfying.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is fun: relaxed and engaging for my students and for me too. I am serious about giving my clients the best and richest learning situation as possible. I use a modality designed just for that student and perhaps not offered at school. Since I am in a one on one setting I can ideally focus on just that one student's personal needs. I communicate clearly with all stake holders to ensure I am meeting the learner's needs and expectations. I know some of our relationships will be short term to get past an academic challenge and others may be longer to meet your needs. Whatever the length or circumstances I want it to be the best, positively memorable and educationally worthwhile experience for my student.

My Hobbies

My home is my castle. I am fortunate that I have a darling house with a lovely yard. Besides that I sew and quilt, read extensively, attend social and culture events and thrive being with friends and family.

Subject Commentary

Elementary Phonics Proficiency: Expert
I am expert in all the elementary areas because I spent so many years as an elementary teacher and school counselor. That was my primary placement although I worked with high school, college and adult students also.
Math Proficiency: Expert
I have a wealth of experience teaching all levels of math from early childhood to pre-algebra or 7th grade.
Sociology Proficiency: Expert
So much of being expert in any field is having the ability to teach my students to use effective study skills and learning strategies. This I can do for you although I excelled at many sociology classes in undergraduate and graduate school.
