Experience Summary
I earned 36 graduate credits in history at NYU. I am an English/Social Studies Test Prep Teacher with "excellent" record helping achieve higher test scores and with a five-star rating for tutoring history primarily. My most recent Teaching experience includes an 11th Grader from Roslyn who within 5 lessons went from 2030 to 2310/2400 on the SAT and has been accepted to Dartmouth, Duke and Northwestern. As education director of a Learning Center in Manhasset, NY, I had “success stories” that include A student who has since gone onto Harvard, with a SAT World History Subject Test student after only 2 months raised her score from 480 to 800/800.
Teaching Style
I tutor test-taking tactics on reading comprehension and writings for the SAT and other standardized tests. I specialize in decoding the reading passages so that the student only has to choose between two multiple choice questions rather than among five, which can take up a lot of time and panicking the student. With "Philip's Principles" the student becomes more confident fairly quickly.
As for the History, usually I tell stories that fill in the blanks when the student picks wrong choices on multiple choice questions. I explain the background so we can figure out why one was right and why one was wrong.
