Experience Summary
I have wanted to teach students my entire life. I began tutoring when I went to college. There I tutored my peers in composition and literature. As I continued my college career, I had three semesters where I taught grades 7-12. I received my BS in Education in December of 2007 and began teaching high school English at the sophomore level at a local high school. While working there, I got a job offer closer to home and began that in July of 2008. There I taught 9-12 British Literature, College Composition, Creative Writing, American Literature, and Drama. I currently have my teaching certificate which certifies me to teach 9-12 English (Language Arts) in the state of Missouri.
Teaching Style
I am a very fun and energetic person, therefore, my teaching style reflects my personality. I usually use hands on activities to keep the students engaged and allow them to be responsible for their own learning. I also find that this helps them have a better understanding of the subject area and since many people do not like English class very much, my approach helps them have a new respect for the subject. Of course, I do adapt my teaching style to work with each individual student as I and the student see necessary. I believe that the students and I should have a mutual respect for one another. Therefore, I like for them to have a say in their learning and education.
