Experience Summary
I love language and literature and studied hard at the university. I earned a Bachelor degree in English Literature and Spanish, a double major, and went on to complete a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (Fiction). As an undergraduate I worked at the university’s writing center, tutoring other students with various writing projects. I also tutored adult GED students in English. I taught Freshman Composition One and Two; Introduction to Fiction Writing; and co-taught an American Studies class.
Teaching Style
As a teacher, I try to instill in the students a sense of ownership of the class, encouraging them to take charge of their own education, and not limit themselves to studying only the material presented in class. I try to teach by leading the students toward a goal by asking open-ended questions of them, rather than giving prescriptive instructions or dictating units of knowledge set in stone. I try to open students up to the concept of learning as exploration and discovery, a process that can be exciting and fun instead of tedious.
