Experience Summary
As a seasoned teacher I have accomplished many attributes. I have earned a bachelor's in Music and a masters in Special ed. In addition I believe that teaching is not like any other profession, it challenges you in every way possible from building your character, wisdom, patience, intuitiveness and knowledge. Teacher’s are not only given the challenge of building their own self esteem, but also the students in their classroom. I believe that out of all the experience I have had the most important one has been establishing a rapport with the student and giving them the confidence they need so they can pursue each subject area.
I believe teacher's are given the opportunity to improve the student's individual character, improve the students knowledge intake, and when the student actually gets what the teacher is trying to teach that is the most rewarding experience for the student and the teacher.
Teaching Style
If I had to pick one style it would be direct teaching. Although being a special education teacher I also use the cognitive strategy instruction. This approach is very helpful as a tool to help students develop the necessary skills to be self-regulated learners.
One should continually differentiate the lesson utilizing all the modalities. When I facilitate interaction between the class it will depend on the lesson sometimes having the whole class participate is the way to go, other times it is helpful to employ small groups. I believe you have to be versatile yet consistent I feel this is important for the learning styles of the students.
