About Me

Experience Summary

I have a strong interest in helping students with their academic careers; with experience working at both the elementary and high school levels, as well as in activities outside of the traditional classroom, I have a diverse background with much to offer. I have graduated from Rider University, NJ with a B.A. in English literature and writing. I obtained an Associate Degree in secondary education. My student teaching experiences has taken me from elementary to high school students. I have worked for years with children from K-12th grade. I have developed and run programs for recreational town camps as well as the Princeton YMCA. My teaching experiences also led me to work for a tutoring program called, CLUB Z in home tutoring, which I traveled to my students' homes and provided home instruction. I was recently Director of Education for Huntington Learning Center, one of the oldest of supplemental instruction companies. As a Director of Education, it was my responsibility to analyze a student's evaluation test and plan a program that meets that student's needs, which will increase the skills that they need to achieve in the classroom. I also helped tutor some of our students who had learning disabilities or who were involved in our SAT program.

Teaching Style

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people. For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.
