Experience Summary
Throughout my school experience, I have been a top performer. I attended a "gifted" program in elementary school. I was the Valedictorian at Hagerstown Junior/Senior High School in Hagerstown, Indiana. I received a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. There, I majored in Economics and was a tutor for Micro- and Macroeconomics students my junior and senior years. My economics degree gave me a broad understanding of mathematics (I took Statistics and Calculus I-III), but also gave me experience in technical writing. Beyond this, I also have gained excellent English skills through my newspaper experiences in high school, college and during a summer internship. Lastly, I obtained a minor in French and am a proficient reader/writer/speaker.
In addition to my college experiences, I also currently volunteer with Junior Achievement. For two semesters, I have taught first graders about the basics of an economy and about the importance of saving.
Teaching Style
Adaptation and flexibility are the keys to teaching and tutoring. Children have varying styles of learning and each requires a different teaching style. My goal as a tutor is to identify the learning style of the student and adapt to it. I believe that all students have the ability to learn if they are provided with the right environment. I believe in making learning fun. I am a patient; kind and highly-energetic individual who would love to help children obtain their learning goals.
