Experience Summary
Throughout my life I have possessed a continuing desire to obtain and pass on knowledge. This led me to the field of anthropology, which provides me the opportunity to be continuously learning, as well as teaching others. During my undergraduate education, I had the opportunity to tutor Spanish and English, both at a community college and privately. I found this to be an extremely rewarding experience, as it allowed me to pass on my passion for studying languages. As I pursued my bachelor’s degree, it was necessary to me to perfect my skills in reading and writing the English language.
Teaching Style
I understand that each student has a unique learning style, and attempt to tailor my lessons to fit their needs. I believe that intimidation is the greatest obstacle to learning, and therefore my primary goal as an educator is to increase each student’s comfort level with the subject matter. I encourage students to ask questions and work with them to seek and discover the answers. I then allow the students to “teach” me what they have learned, which I find increases their ability to absorb and process the new information. I feel that this helps them build confidence, and most importantly, a desire to continue learning.
