Experience Summary
I have tutored as part of community service projects as well as in service-learning classes. During my class on the Latino Immigration Experience in the United States, I taught in an English as a Second Language teacher to high school freshmen and sophomores. I really enjoyed the experience of helping their teacher relate to her students by aiding in lesson planning and other aspects of the classroom experience.
Teaching Style
I believe that every teacher is also a learner and that every student is also a teacher. We have much to learn from the people we tutor and vice versa. My goal is to relate to my students on a personal level and make sure that they are actually learning and not merely memorizing my lessons. I think that it is necessary to personalize all instruction to your audience, especially when working with younger students. In this way, I know that I can effectively teach anyone who should need my help.
