Experience Summary
I have been tutoring since 2007. Helping a variety of students meet their academic goals is what I love to do. Not only do I tutor the children from grades K-5, but I also can help general or specific subjects in middle school and high school as well. 9 students have passed the GED under my tutelage. Assisting with test prep is another way I love to help students. I have also helped students do well on the SAT and ACT. In addition, I have extensive experience preparing non-native English speakers prepare for their college entrance exam, the TOEFL. Finally, I also assist non-native English speakers with accent reduction.
Teaching Style
My teaching style focuses on the needs of the student. I tend to access how the student learns best within the first 1-2 sessions and then I can work with the student in the way that is most beneficial to him or her. Each student has a ball of learning energy inside them that will come out if you encourage them. I love encouraging students and getting them excited about learning new things. I try to simplify concepts to make it easier to grasp and compare assignments to life situations. There aren't many people who care about how other people succeed, but I love to watch people grow as they learn new ideas, grasp new concepts, learn some new studying tips and succeed in their education.
My Hobbies
When I'm not teaching, I love teaching! I host creative writing workshops. I love to write poetry and short stories. I love to sing at karaoke and share my poetry and songs at open mics.
